Technical Coordinator, Anticipatory Action for IFRC/Danish Red Cross

(6 months with possible extension)
Qualification: Master’s degree in a relevant area (e.g., Disaster Risk Management, or Climate Change or Early Action or Engineering or Relevant Technical Discipline)
Experience: 7-10 years of experience in the field of Disaster Preparedness and Risk Reduction with a focus on Anticipatory Action. Also, at least 5 years of work experience in climate change adaptation, early warning anticipatory/early action, locally led adaptation, or related work.

Responsibilities:

The Technical Coordinator (Anticipatory Action) will be part of the DRC Country Cluster (Bangladesh and Nepal), which is an integrated part of the IFRC in Nepal. This position will be based in NDRRMA and for day to day work Technical Coordinator will be under the supervision of the Multi Hazard Early Warning Systems (MHEWS) cum Anticipatory Action Focal Person, NDRRMA but in liaison with the Head of Programme, DRC. Technical reporting line will be to the DRC Program Coordinator.

The Technical Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the establishment of the Anticipatory Action (AA) Clinic, which will serve to strengthen the institutional capacity and governance of AA within Nepal’s government so that NDRRMA can steer the direction of both current and future AA related initiatives, projects, and programs.

It is expected that the Technical Coordinator will support NDRRMA in coordinating with counterparts in organizations and agencies involved in AA, including acting as the point of contact for the communities of practice (COP), various technical working groups (TWGs), as well as where relevant, networks outside of Nepal (e.g., Anticipation Hub, REAP, regional TWGs etc.)

The Technical Coordinator will support NDRRMA with the mainstreaming and standardization on AA, as well as capacity building of NDRRMA, other organizations and agencies on the approach. Additionally, they will support NDRRMA to lead the multi stakeholder collaborative process of developing a national framework and action plan on Anticipatory Action.
