Helen Keller International has been working in Nepal since 1989 to improve the sight and lives of the vulnerable by combating the causes and consequences of blindness, poor health, and malnutrition through public health approaches, build capacity of organizations and contribute to policy changes through systems strengthening and operations research. We request applications from qualified individuals for short-term assignments as mentioned below:
Transcriber (Consultant x 2) for Capacity assessment for assistive technology in Nepal
Tentative duration: January 1, 2024 – March 31, 2024 (20 days)
Summary of Job Purpose:
Assistive Technology (AT) is an umbrella term covering Assistive Products (AP) such as hearing aids, wheelchairs, communication aids, spectacles, prostheses, memory aids etc. AT helps to improve functioning and independence of people with disabilities (including older people, people with non-communicable diseases, people with mental health conditions and people with gradual functional decline), thereby promoting their well-being.
Helen Keller International is conducting a provincial level qualitative study to understand the situation of AT in 5P areas (people-centered, policy, products, provision, and personnel) using Assistive Technology Assessment-Capacity (ATA-C), a WHO tool. In line with the situation assessment, the data transcriber will work closely with the Research Manager to transcribe interviews with the stakeholders. The consultant will follow Helen Keller International research ethics.
Educational qualifications and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, development studies, social sciences, or related field.
- Two years of experience in the research field.
- Sound knowledge of qualitative research methods.
- Previous experience with English transcription of audio interviews from Nepali.
- Proficiency in written and spoken Nepali and English languages.
