Location: Project Office, Doti

Starting Date: January 2025

Duration of contract: Four months with possibility of extension

Gross Salary: NPR 1,146,684.00 per annum negotiable based on competency

GNI Nepal is now implementing Advancing Nutritional Status of School Children in Doti Project, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan working closely with Good Neighbors Japan. This project is dedicated to enhancing the nutritional health of school-aged children in Doti through sustainable, community-driven programs.

The Civil Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing the construction of infrastructure projects, conducting feasibility studies, and preparing technical resources, designs, and cost estimates while adhering to best practices and national standards. The role involves frequent site visits to ensure quality, timely delivery, and compliance with project specifications, along with monitoring materials, managing stocks, and enhancing team capacity through training. She/he is also responsible for preparing reports, financial settlements, and procurement documents, coordinating with stakeholders such as local governments and school authorities, and maintaining safety, security, and compliance with child protection and emergency protocols. Additionally, the engineer supports effective documentation, reporting, and other tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

A. Planning, Design, and Technical Oversight

• Conduct feasibility studies and detailed surveys of target infrastructure.
• Prepare civil designs, estimates, and specifications for required structures, ensuring alignment with best practices and national standards.
• Facilitate procurement processes through the preparation of bid documents and technical specifications.
• Review local government policies and integrate them into project planning.
• Develop technical resources for School WASH infrastructure and other project-related constructions.

B. Monitoring, Implementation, and Quality Assurance:

• Conduct frequent site visits to ensure construction quality, adherence to designs, and compliance with project timelines.
• Monitor material quality, oversee workmanship, and verify construction activities to meet approved standards.
• Ensure the timely delivery of materials, conduct sample checks, and manage stocks efficiently.
• Strengthen the capacity of sub-engineers and technicians through regular training and workshops on disaster resilience and sustainability.

C. Documentation, Reporting, and Financial Management:

• Collect, compile, and share regular field reports, including progress updates and completion reports.
• Prepare Bills of Quantities (BoQs), tender documents, and infrastructure monitoring tools.
• Ensure timely financial settlements, verify bills, and document processes for accountability.
• Regularly update financial and activity dashboards and share status reports with supervisors.

D. Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement:

• Organize meetings with local governments, school authorities, partner NGOs, and stakeholders to provide technical input and updates.
• Maintain active communication with Construction Committees and School Management Committees (SMCs).
• Mobilize team members and subordinates to facilitate effective construction interventions.

E. Safety, Security, and Compliance:

• Manage daily site safety and security, ensuring adherence to security protocols and child protection policies.
• Participate in safety training and promote safe practices at project sites. Comply with emergency procedures and organizational standards for safeguarding and disaster preparedness

F. Additional Responsibilities:

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or agreed upon with the supervisor.

Job Requirements

The candidates should have the following key job requirements and skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with at least 3 years of professional experience working in INGOs
• Extensive experience in planning, designing, and supervising the construction of infrastructure projects, including feasibility studies, site assessments, and preparation of civil designs, estimates, and technical specifications.
• Proven ability to manage construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring quality and timely delivery
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and CAD for reporting, documentation, and technical design.
• Capable of working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and collaborating across departments.
• Hold high integrity, honesty, flexibility, and self-motivation, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Strong analytical skills, demonstrated networking skills, and ability to take initiative
• Good communication skills with the project team as well as various stakeholders.
