Gender Equality, Safeguarding and Social Inclusion (GESSI) Specialist
Job Location: Kathmandu, Nepal
The GESSI Specialist will bring expertise to promote gender equality, diversity, inclusion, access and safeguarding within the institution and in programmatic interventions. The position will be responsible for providing technical assistance to project teams for developing and delivering the project’s GESSI integration plan and building awareness and core knowledge of safeguarding issues and the FHI 360 policies related to safeguarding of staff and program participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to organizational efforts to promote GESSI within the institution, across the different portfolios, and deliver GESSI commitments.
- Serve as a GESSI technical lead/contributor in new proposal bid, program design and business development.
- Provide technical backstopping to develop and implement the project’s GESSI integration interventions, as required.
- Train project staff, partners, and grantees in GESSI principles and work with program to ensure GESSI is integrated across the project activities.
- Work with appropriate program teams, partners, consultants, and contractors to undertake GESI audits as necessary.
- Develop and maintain relationships with GESI liaisons within government institutions, civil society organizations, and funding agencies.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and other events around GESSI, and keep the leadership and staff apprised of new developments and best practices around GESSI.
- Support project team to ensure GESSI integration and mainstreaming and compliance in their grant activities.
- Roll out and ensure timely completion of safeguarding tools in the country office.
- Coordinate with Country Director and Project Director/Chief of Party to develop a Safeguarding Action Plan for the projects.
- Train project staff, volunteers, and partners to build awareness and core knowledge of safeguarding issues and the FHI 360 policies to prevent and respond to harm toward program participants.
- Work with project staff to increase awareness among program participants about their rights and how to report harm.
- Support to strengthening complaint mechanisms and accountability to affected.
- Support complaints from program participants: provide survivor-centered support and make referrals.
- Liaise with the Office of Compliance and Internal Audit (OCIA) to coordinate in-country investigation activities (not investigating cases).
- Participate in inter-agency coordination and regular meetings with regional FHI 360 Focal Points to build knowledge and share information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Country Director.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in the related field with three to five years of relevant work experience in the development sector or bachelor’s degree with five to seven years of experience in related field.
- Experienced in designing and implementing activities related to gender equality and social inclusion and safeguarding.
- Knowledge of the Nepalese civil society sector and GESSI context.
- Experience working with organizations led/run by or representing but not limited to women, youth, janajatis, sexual and gender minorities, and other marginalized or miniority groups.
- Proactive in managing multiple tasks, managing, and working in the virtual work environment, and flexible and open to managing time for working with different teams in different time zones as needed.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, team building and management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written English and Nepali including documentation skills.
