Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

Main purpose of job:

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Security Supervisor, to be responsible for overseeing all security operations within the British Embassy’s compound 24/7 in shift basis. The position is responsible for securing premises and personnel by patrolling and monitoring surveillance equipment with a sharp eye. Your primary duties include checking and admitting authorised visitors onto the compound including inspecting buildings and assuring compliance to the policy and procedure whilst also preventing losses or damage by reporting irregularities that may arise. Also responding to any distress calls and alarms, effectively responding to emergency situations, and keeping track of all incidents.

We reserve the right to review, revise or amend the roles and responsibilities from time to time reflecting the changing needs of business.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

  • Maintain security of the Embassy and off compound residences ensuring compliance with Post Security
  • Regulation (PSR) and Post Instructions strictly.
  • Maintain Access Control at the main gate and consular section.
  • Carry out security checks on staff, contractors, visitors and vehicle on arrival and exit using security scanners and other equipment in line with the State of Vigilance.
  • Issue passes and log accurate details of authorised visitors and vehicles that enter onto the compound and exit from the compound.
  • Screen letters, parcels and luggage that come within the compound.
  • Monitor and control the parking area of the Embassy.
  • Report immediately any damages and security related matters to Security Supervisors and log incidents in the occurrence logbook.
  • Conduct regular perimeter patrols and ensure the compound is safe by performing regular safety and fire-equipment checks including fire exits.
  • Monitor and analyse CCTV camera footage and report to on-duty Security Supervisor in case of suspicious and/or criminal activity.
  • Protect the British Embassy’s assets relative to theft, assault, fire, and other safety issues.
  • Communicate any irregularities with on-duty Security Supervisor.
  • Write daily activity reports and provide them to on-duty Security Supervisor.
  • Escort visitors and contractors inside the compound as necessary.
  • Respond all the phone calls effectively at the gatehouse.
  • Perform regular checks of security equipment to make sure everything is working and report immediately to on-duty Security Supervisor if found any discrepancy.
    React to any type alarms within the premises to keep buildings and personnel safe.
  • Secure and control the keys of office buildings and residences. Issue them to the authorized staff and keep the accurate records on the logbook.
  • Assist and provide the require information to all the customers seeking assistance at the gatehouse.
  • Provide required service to ensure safe, efficient, and smooth-running events and receptions conducted on the Embassy premises. Participate in flag raising ceremony whenever it is required.
  • Take responsibility of Security Supervisor on his/her leave absence and assist Security Liaison Officer (SLO) and Post Security Manager (PSM) whenever required to make any job success.

Working patterns:

  • Afternoon Shift : 1500 hours to 2300 hours
  • Night Shift : 2300 hours to 0700 hours

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Essential on arrival:

  • Minimum 10th (SEE) standard pass in any field.
  • The ability to work quickly, reliably, and proactively with attention to detail and limited supervision.

Language requirements:

  • Language: English and Nepali
  • Level of language required: Good Standard of reading, speaking, and writing in both languages

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

Desirable:

  • Experience in security field and shift pattern work
  • Basic computer knowledge
